  •     stereotype: an exaggerated or wrong image of the characteristics of a particular group.
  •     violence: actions or words which are intended to hurt people.
  •     feminism: a movement which claims to advocate the right of women.
  •     self-confidence: a belief in one’s own abilities and skills.
  •     international women’s day: an occasion celebrated by women’s groups around the world on March 8th.
  •     emancipation: freeing someone socially and politically.
  •     polygamy: having more than one spouse/wife.
  •     gender: male or female.


Prefixes and suffixes

  • Prefixes:

Prefixes are a type of affix that is added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning or create a new word. Here are some common prefixes and their meanings:

  1. anti-: against or opposite Example: anti-inflammatory
  2. dis-: not, opposite, or reverse Example: disagree

  3. en-/em-: to cause to become or to put into Example: empower

  4. ex-/e-: out of, from, or former Example: ex-boyfriend

  5. il-/im-/in-/ir-: not, without, or opposite Example: impossible

  6. inter-: between or among Example: interact

  7. mis-: wrong or bad Example: misunderstand

  8. non-: not or opposite of Example: non-fiction

  9. pre-: before Example: preview

  10. re-: again or back Example: rewrite

  11. sub-: under, below, or less than Example: submarine

  12. un-: not or reverse Example: unable

There are many more prefixes in the English language, but these are some of the most common ones.

Suffixes are a type of affix that is added to the end of a word to change its meaning or create a new word. Here are some common suffixes and their meanings:

  1. -able/-ible: capable of, able to be Example: comfortable

  2. -al/-ial: relating to, like Example: global

  3. -ance/-ence: state or quality of, action or process of Example: importance

  4. -ate: become, cause to be Example: activate

  5. -ful: full of Example: beautiful

  6. -ify/-fy: to make, cause to be Example: simplify

  7. -ish: somewhat, like Example: childish

  8. -ism: doctrine, belief Example: socialism

  9. -ity/-ty: quality or state of Example: creativity

  10. -ize/-ise: to make, cause to be Example: organize

  11. -less: without Example: hopeless

  12. -ment: action or process of Example: movement

  13. -ness: state or quality of Example: happiness

  14. -ous/-ious: full of, having the qualities of Example: dangerous

There are many more suffixes in the English language, but these are some of the most common ones.
